What types of support can best help adult college students complete their education?

Adult Students Need Support Systems
For adults, returning to school takes courage—and a support system that includes friends, family, and faculty.

More than 4,400 adult college students identified their most important support systems in the study, To Graduate or Drop Out? Factors Affecting College Degree Completion of Baby Boomer, Generation X, and Millennial Students. Baby Boomers more frequently relied on faculty members, while Millennial students and Gen Xers more often relied on spouses and friends for support. Read more about how adults cope with the demands of college. Also compare the responses of adult students in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

Millennials and Generation Xers: Leadership is Gender-Neutral
Younger people see fewer gender differences than older ones, according to the results of an Apollo Research Institute leadership survey. As part of the Institute’s women’s careers and leadership study, over 3,000 managers in various industries were asked to rate male and female leaders on 10 attributes and 10 skills related to leadership.

Millennials and Generation Xers saw less of a gender difference than Baby Boomers did on seven of 10 attributes and nine of 10 skills. The generational differences were most pronounced when respondents were asked about comfort with calculated risk, being strategic/visionary, having industry expertise, and technological proficiency. On all those items, Millennials and Generation Xers rated women considerably higher than Boomers did. Millennials and Generation Xers were also considerably more likely to rate women higher at resolving conflict, communicating, organizing people, networking, and mentoring/coaching than older respondents did.
